The article “How a Cuban Writer Defied Censors and Became a Latin American Literature Icon” explores the ways in which his roles as a poet, novelist, and everything in-between has impacted Cuban literature as we know it today. Known for his influential 1966 novel “Paradiso”, he was censored by the Cuban revolutionary state that polices artistic and intellectual expression that was deemed detrimental to the state.
